Good Omens
When I say May 11, I meant May 12. Seriously. It was a typo. Don’t look at me like that.
I got to Vancouver at around 7:15 p.m., Pacific Daylight Time. The flight actually arrived EARLY, which I believe is against FAA regulations or something, but whatever. It made me happy, since sitting on a plane is only eclipsed in boringness by stock market reports and soccer.
The Vancouver airport is nice. Unlike the Toronto airport, which is characterized by giant walls and also other giant walls, the Vancouver airport has big windows and tall totem poles near the baggage claim. You might wonder how tall totem poles enhance your baggage claim experience, and that’s a fair question, but trust me, they are very very big totem poles.
Our rental apartment is small, but nice. The walls are orange and there is a postmodernist picture of Mickey Mouse as if we were drawn by a 5-year-old on the wall, and instead of a coffee table we have two HALVES of a coffee table that together form a complete coffee table. Very avant garde. Or something.
We went to McDonalds last night at about 9:30. Pulled up to order — and there was no one there. So we drove up to the next window, where normally you’d expect to pick up your food, and asked the guy what was up. He looked a little confused — and perhaps stoned, but generally everybody in Vancouver looks stoned (or Asian) — but decided he would take our order.
We got our food, and he informed us that, and this is a direct quote, “It’s too busy right now. Just take it.” There wasn’t a damn person in the place and we were the only car at the drive-thru, so I’m not sure if ‘busy’ holds a different meaning to those who work at McDonalds, or if perhaps by ‘busy’ he was implying that he had an illegal arms deal going on in the back room, but whatever the case may be, he REALLY wanted us to just take the food for free.
So we did. And now I keep wondering if I’ll vomit.
Pearle watched Scrubs last night for the first time. Obviously she loves it. Everyone loves it. If Scrubs was a song, it would be that one everybody likes. That was a terrible analogy; I’m sorry.
More tomorrow!
