Kings: Things and Stuff
I’ve been meaning to post these pictures for a while but I am lazy. And also there is very little to say about them! They just sort of are! They came during the height of mid-term season, when everybody was spending their days worrying about failure. “Oh no,” they were saying, “if we do not do well we will not be able to drive ourselves deeper into debt by going to school for 3 or 4 more years!” It was a rough time for all involved. But things still happened. As evident from my title, stuff AND things happened, and that is what I have pictures of for you today. I hope you enjoy them!
The Highlights
- It’s Me and My Dad! We have taken a picture like this every year I have been in Halifax. This one was taken at Freeman’s, a place where I am happy to say that I have become an honest-to-god regular. We have conversations with the waitresses and everything! It is like Cheers!
- Kristine and Danielle and Mike visit the ATMs. I took this picture in the hopes that it would be kind of symmetrical. But then Kristine went and ruined it by scowling at her bank statement.
- Bryan’s friend Sarah, who he met at Queen’s at first year — before he realized how much he NEEDED to be with us –, transferred to Halifax so we showed her around the city one night. Which consisted of going to that giant wave and also those stupid lobsters (Though this picture is great because Bryan is REALLY trying to arouse that crustacean.). We then tried to find a downtown bar to hang out at but could not find one that wasn’t either busy or didn’t have a ninety-dollar cover charge so we ended up at — you guessed it — Freeman’s. We’re regulars!
- And just because I posted that weird picture of Bryan above, here is a terrible one of me. I appear to have been sleeping while standing up. But then I woke up and got pissed.
- We are a badass trio.
- There are a lot of pictures of eating in this set, as my camera tends to just sit in the kitchen all the time. Feel free to skip them, even if some of them do look like cereal ads. And some of them basically are Life Cereal Ads. I assume these were all taken in the morning so I really can’t take credit for the staggering beauty of that cereal box as it sits in the path of the rising sun.
- It’s Thanksgiving and everyone is lazing about! Must have been all that squash we ate! We did Thanksgiving vegetarian-style this year at Erin’s place, and on the whole it was a good night, with flashes of greatness when this happened! And then this happened!! And then this!
- It all sort of descended into some weird gymnastic showcase culminating in what probably is the best picture of Christina ever taken.
- The theme of this set of photos is terrible picture followed by angry picture.
- Upcoming entry on the hit new game show ‘Guess that food!’
- In a beautiful bit of redemption, the returning Josh Bleser and Gwen provided me with the ATM symmetry I was hoping for. Thanks guys!
- Yes, Josh came back for a very short few days. Unfortunately everyone was very very busy during his time here, but I hope he still had a good time. Here’s a shot of his commemorative dinner featuring, from left, Andrew Black, Gwen, Scott Baio, Erin, Mike, Rory, Kristine, Brendan Gray, Josh’s main squeeze Amilee and the man of the hour himself. We ate at Deco Restaurant on Spring Garden which was kind of charming but also more expensive than a Greenland heating bill in January. But we all seem happy, anyway!
The whole set is here. More pics will be coming fastly and furiously (Perhaps TOO FAST and TOO FURIOUS) as I already have a new set to post!
Stuffily,
Matt

Awww, I remember Deco. I miss Halifax.
Whoever the blond-ish guy with the glasses doing the acrobatic moves is looks very much like me. I am deeply intrigued. And disturbed.
I have never been to Freemans.
That guy IS you, Joe. It is you.
One day soon we will go to Freeman’s, Care. Maybe with Jack!
I have only had one Freeman’s experience, and it was bad. Maybe they have improved since I was in highschool, or maybe they just hate highschool students, but I have no intention of ever returning. Luckily for them, they seem to have managed to keep some sort of a customer base.
I should probably explain the Freeman’s thing. You see, they are not the best bar in Halifax by any stretch of the imagination. Nor is their food particularly great. Also it’s not like the atmosphere is awesome or the prices really cheap. We became regulars at Freeman’s solely because it offers guaranteed seating — it is never THAT busy, compared to some of the other places in this city that become zoos on the weekend — and is very very close to our house.
It is under new ownership, too, so it might have improved since your high school experience. The owner is Laurel. We know the owner. It’s kind of weird.
