Mysteries of Space!
I love google.
Okay, so I usually don’t do quick updates like this, but this is monumental! Finally I can see things from space! All my life I have been cursed by satellite imagery websites that only cover the continental United States. I wanted more than ANYTHING to find my house using an image taken from SPACE! And now I have DONE IT. I think. I’m not exactly SURE that’s my house, as it turns out viewing satellite photos is more difficult than I expected. But I am pretty sure!
The “A” is pointing out the local “Kwik Way” convenience store, which I used as a point of reference. The green-roofed building is the beautiful and award-winning library at the University of King’s College. The buildings near it — that make a square or even, ha ha, a ‘quad’ — make up the entire University of King’s College campus. It ain’t big, people. Behind it, you can see the so-called Dunn building — a Dalhousie building –, which is well-known only because it used to have a freaking laser on its roof. Behind that? The Howe Hall parking lot. Behind that? Howe Hall! A Dalhousie residence where people lead typical university lives involving a lot of drinking and, I hear, nudity. I missed out on that.
I’ve circled in blue what I THINK is the house I currently inhabit. I am not entirely sure that my circle is accurate, however, as all the houses seem to blend together. If someone could help me out and either confirm or deny that that IS my house, I’d really appreciate it!
And once you’ve done that, head on over to Google Maps Beta. If you click “Satellite”, you can zoom in on all sorts of locations across Canada. Try and find YOUR house! It’s an amazing way to waste three or four hours!
And next time you’re on the street, remember to look to the sky and wave. Because, seriously, satellites are awesome.

Matt, you prove yet again that your website is an invaluable resource to many. Well, at least many. When I woke up yesterday I checked your site and found this! How happy was I because I had a test to study for and clearly this was more important. It was also a lot more fun than studying.
My housemate and I were pretty excited when Google decided they would show up Mapquest. But I hadn’t seen the tiny text up in the corner announcing the Satellite feature. So, that’s one way your site brings hope to millions.
Right now, the satellite (because clearly I control it when I visit the site) cannot zoom in all the way to street level on Kingston or Jarvis. The only reason for this, that I can see, is that their respective municipal governments called up Google and told them they didn’t want people seeing up close how awesome both towns are and causing thousands to move there.
Maybe praise for you site should have been included in the comments for the previous post but I’m lazy. Your site is one of my favourites (after ratemybody.com, of course) because my friends’ beautiful faces are on it sometimes. And I like them. So thanks!
Also, your stories about old men and death are very enjoyable. I also like the happy ones.
If I could make one suggestion though, more drunk Kristine. Who doesn’t love that?
I am convinced that, since I’ve made the comments box bigger, people are leaving longer comments. There’s no other explanation for it! Sports-Denblog take note.
Bryan told me that he found your house! Is he a liar? Probably. That guy is shifty. But yeah, I hope they expand coverage to more rural areas soon, as it would be neat to find my cottage and, like, bigfoot. Or maybe just my cottage.
I spent two hours on Monday afternoon scrolling around New York City, thinking about Spider-Man.
Thanks for the positive comments. I’d post more drunken Kristine pictures if she’d drink more. The girl is all library-obsessed, these days. But Nicole is here and I think there will be drinking this week. So, uh, stay tuned.
Jeremy, if you zoom in on the darker rectangle that contains Brantford down to Port Dover, you can see a portion of Jarvis (the portion that you live in). your house is qute close to the border of the region.
Half of the castle is both a) obsessed with this and b) pissed that you can’t see Kingston (fucking Queen’s!)… I, on the other hand, am just two shakes of a scrolly mouse outside the border of Matt’s post.
Here I am, complete with helpful graffiti-like text:

Oh my god! I can see my friggin house! AND GREAT WHITE IN THE DRIVEWAY! I zoomed in all the way, it actually works now. Kind of.
What’s wrong with Queen’s? Well, besides the obvious.
That’s amazing.
Now I can know what the aliens see…and maybe find out how they’re reading my mind.
Thank god I have something to while away the time between seinfeld ends on tbs and starts again on fox…those three hours have been hard. I’ve tried to fill them with religion, friends, family….but nothing comes close to this, which is really my equivalent to internet porn.
Thanks Mr. Elliott. You are a king among men and a god among kings.
1999 - Only the most l33t hackers know how to take an address and look up a satellite photo for that address. Doing so is considered creepy “stalker activity” and almost a violation of privacy.
May 2005 - Google follows its mission statement of “Making stalking that much easier” by making this service so easy that an idiot could do it.
April 2005 - Matt saves the stalkers ANOTHER step by showing the exact location of his own home on the frickin’ FRONT PAGE of his own website.
Seriously man, I’ve already marked down about 25 ideal sniper locations within a block of your house. Give us some challenge, huh?
And thanks for the congrats from last time… yeah, I didn’t think ANY of us Studio64 group would get married, and if we did, I figured I would be the last. Just goes to show… something. Or other.
