Crap I’m late
Oh no. How can I disguise this post to look like it was on time? How? How? In what time zone is it before midnight still? Oh no this is so traumatic.
Erin:: soon there will be a katrina musical
Erin:: lets make that
Erin:: it’ll be fun figuring out flood waters on stage
Erin:: and looters who sing and dance
Matt: Hahaha
Matt: With songs like “Rape in the Superdome” and “Bush doesn’t care about Black People.”
Erin:: hell yes!!!!!
Erin:: there will be so much drama and underlying romantic subplots!
Erin:: a relief worker and a refugee! the standoff between thre refugees and FEMA! the mayor and his amazing musical plea
Matt: It’s a story surprisingly suited to the musical, really.
Erin:: we need a song about the renegade bus
Matt: And in the end the sun comes out and they all sing “Don’t Forget Her (Katrina!)”
Matt: There was a renegade bus?
Erin:: yup!!! some people stole it and showed up in the astrodome
Erin:: and they weren’t allowed in
Erin:: and then they were. after a strong musical plea
Erin:: involving dancing!!! and perhaps gyrations on the bus poles and handles
Erin:: and that song will be called “Take me to Houston!”
Erin:: with perhaps a subtitle of (away from there waters)
Matt: Yes, that would be a nice song.
Matt: And all along you have these bumbling politicians singing about how great they are.
Matt: “Hecukva Job” and “Heckuva Job (Reprise)”
Erin:: yes! but they will lose the danceoff in the superdome parking lot
Erin:: or in the streets
Erin:: not unlike the scene in Rent! when the bohemians win the dance off in the restaurant
Matt: Yes. A scene like that is key.
Matt: A long song with lots of different parts.
Erin:: and perhaps a romantic interlude
Matt: Oh yes absolutely.
Matt: Where two people stand in sewer water and sing about their love for one another.
Erin:: because they met in the chaos of the floods
Erin:: and under different circumstances they would be together forever
Matt: “Chaos of the Floods” is also a good name for a song.
Erin:: and there will be another subplot about someone searching for their lost love
Erin:: using a BOAT
Matt: How do you use a boat on a stage?
Erin:: maybe we will save that for the movie version
Erin:: but can’t you see it? it’ll be dark and cold and he will have a flashlight and a makeshift paddle calling out “susan! susan!” as he drifts through the houses
Matt: Yes, it is a powerful image.
Matt: We could put wheels on a rowboat.
Erin:: that has been done before
Matt: And have it pushed around the stage by children dressed as waves and dead corpses.
