Settling In
We’re back again in a whole new way.
I’ve said that before. I’ll probably say it again. My modus operandi for this sort of thing is to disappear and then, months later, reappear, inexplicably, as if very little has happened. It’s not exactly what I was hoping my modus operandi would be (I always wanted to make grand entrances — like descending through a skylight; greeting people in a halo of shattered glass. That would be a good M.O.) but it’s something, and it’s worked for me for years now. It keeps me mysterious. It keeps me interesting.
The site looks a little different. Honestly, I’m still not entirely happy with it. It’s good a little picture of me. I’m looking up at something. These words, I guess. I do not look impressed by them. It’s like the visual me is judging the written me, and the goddamn philosophical implications of that are just way too much to take. I’ll probably be changing that.
What I do like about this design, however, is the sheer size of the text. The font is big. The headlines are big. It’s a wordpress theme that actually enhances and brings focus to the content. That’s something you don’t often see in wordpress themes, many of which do all they can to obscure the blog content in favour of giant adsense ads or a fucking header the size of New Jersey.
Not me, though. I want my words to be your focus. I want my words to be your friends on this site. They’ll welcome you in. They’ll take your coat. They’ll wrap themselves around you in a friendly embrace. Maybe they’ll squeeze you a little too hard. Maybe you’ll start to feel uncomfortable. Maybe, but rarely, my words might pin you against the wall and tongue-kiss you until you can’t taste anything but saliva and animalistic lust. Who can say. I don’t control these words. They just are.
Over the next few weeks and months I’ll be updating this site on a semi-regular basis. Let’s say at least three times a week. There will be things like photographs, life updates, non-sequitors, and deep-rooted reflections on what it really means to feel something in this world.
Until then, I have updated the About Matt section with things about me. I’ll update the similar Sites & Projects section tomorrow, but it’ll probably be less exciting. Still — it’s something.
By my watch, I’ve got about another eight months before my next disappearance. So settle in and enjoy yourself, those of you out there in the internet. It may not be marriage, but you and graphicmatt.com have the makings of a nice and satisfying long-term relationship.
Matt
