We have photos going back five years
As another maintenance note, I’ve spent the last couple of months going through and cataloguing all the old University pictures. The result is a four year archive with thumbnails and everything. I’ve also gone through all the old Photo articles and made sure all the links work (many now use the nifty lightbox effect) and fixed some other formatting issues.
The result? Now you can read about things like our graduation or that time we went cranberry picking without worrying about encountering a broken link. It’s obviously not the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened — it’d be weird if anybody got really excited about this — but it’s an improvement. Maintaining my history is important, anyway, as I feel it might help future generations understand who I was, and why I did the things I did.
On that note: future historians are going to be fucked, aren’t they? They’re going to have such a huge volume of material to sift through that being a historian is going to be the most boring job ever. Instead of dealing with fossils and surviving fragments of an old manuscript, the future historian will be sifting through burned CDs of frat party photos and MSN chat transcripts wherein a horny forty year old man tries to convince some 19-year-old co-ed to talk about her boobs. Or one where two dumbass college students talk about creating a musical based on one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit the United States.
It’s going to be a different kind of job.
